The Gardner Comparator 3000 is a 3-field instrument for visually determining the Gardner chromaticity of samples by direct comparison in the Comparator 3000 with coloured glass standards. It contains the 18 glass standards of the scale in an AF 228 disc pair:

In a three-part field of view, the sample and two successive glasses of the colour scale are viewed simultaneously, making it easier to find the optimal matching colour. For quick colour grading with predefined colour limits, the glasses can be arranged to the two adjacent colours, making it easy to see if the sample is within the tolerance range.
